Abstract

Ultra-high-molecular-weight polyethylene granules were modified with ZnO/Ag nanoparticles. Compact UHMWPE@ZnO/Ag samples with varying nanoparticle contents were obtained and tested in the photodegradation reaction of a model dye, methylene blue. Samples that demonstrated the best results in photodegradation were evaluated for antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus strain ATCC 6538-P. It was shown that the optimal nanoparticle content in the compact sample, which resulted in the highest photodegradation efficiency and complete inhibition of bacterial growth, was 5 wt %.
