Abstract <p>This study described simple models of the main physical processes occurring during selective laser melting: heating, melting, and spreading. It was shown that the primary mechanism of heat propagation during selective laser melting of Inconel 718 nickel alloy is Marangoni convection. Theoretical maps of melting regimes were constructed in the dimensionless “normalized time–normalized energy” axes.</p>
