Abstract

Studies of the structure and mechanical properties of a bimetallic compound of two steels, 12Kh18N10T and 09Kh17N, obtained by selective laser melting (SLM) are performed. Owing to the proposed process technique, the transition between two steels in the bimetallic sample is implemented with a clear boundary without a smooth gradient change in the chemical composition. The obtained compound demonstrates high quality of formation of the interface. The appearance and number of structure defects characteristic of the synthesized material in the compound does not differ from the samples of each of the steels individually obtained by SLM. The mechanical properties of the bimetallic compound show values that are not inferior to those for the 12Kh18N10T steel that is less strong in comparison with 09Kh17N steel. The tested approaches to the creation of bimetallic compounds can be used upon creating products with functionally graded characteristics by additive technologies.
