Abstract

We studied the short-term effect of stress factors (high and low temperatures, drought) on lipid peroxidation (LPO), the activity of antioxidant enzymes (catalase, ascorbate-peroxidase (APO)), and the state of the photosynthetic apparatus (PSA) according to the characteristics of chlorophyll fluorescence (ChF) in leaves of young plants of woody and herbaceous invasive species—box elder (Acer negundo L.), green ash (Fraxinus pennsylvanica Marsh.), Canadian fleabane (Erigeron canadensis L.), and wild cucumber (Echinocystis lobata L.), spreading intensively in the Republic of Mordovia. It was shown that the responses were different in woody and herbaceous invasive plants. Herbaceous species showed higher resistance to abiotic stressors as compared to woody ones. It has been suggested that the resistance of the antioxidant system and PSA of alien species to environmental stress factors is one of the reasons for the high invasive ability of these plants.
