Modeling of Sonic Boom N-Wave Propagation through Atmospheric Turbulence Using Evolutionary Models

Abstract
The numerical solution of the KZ (Khokhlov–Zabolotskaya) type and HOWARD (heterogeneous one-way approximation for resolution of diffraction) type equations for the propagation of nonlinear acoustic pulses in a randomly inhomogeneous medium in a two-dimensional spatial formulation is implemented. The sonic boom N-wave propagation through the atmospheric turbulence is modeled. The grid convergence is analyzed for KZ type equation with the use of quasi-analytical scheme and WENO5 scheme for the nonlinear transport modeling. Within the same problem framework, a comparative analysis of the solutions obtained using the KZ type and HOWARD type models is performed.
