Abstract

The effect of porosity of epoxy resin-based composite materials on their physicomechanical properties was studied. The amount of pores was determined using the open porosity method in two media: distilled water and ethanol. It was found that increasing porosity significantly decreases the mechanical properties of the composites. Tensile strength decreases considerably because pores weaken the bond between the fibers and the resin, causing stress concentration and microcrack formation. Impact strength decreases more gradually than tensile strength because impact energy is concentrated in high-porosity areas, accelerating failure.
