Nontoxic Wood–Polymer Compositions Based on Modified Amine–Formaldehyde Resins

This paper considers the production technology of nontoxic wood–polymer compositions by way of example of faced particle boards with the application of an amine–formaldehyde resin as a binder in combination with a formaldehyde acceptor of the AF-2 brand. A detailed description and properties of an AF-2 formaldehyde acceptor and properties of a carbamide resin of the KF-MT-15V brand chosen as the base of the binder are presented. The production process of paper–resin films fabricated with the use of a modified amine–formaldehyde resin is described. A lactic acid salt is used as a modifier–catalyst in the synthesis of impregnation amine–formaldehyde resins. This modification makes it possible to obtain impregnation resins with high quality indicators and a low free formaldehyde content and makes it possible to substantially reduce the amount of expensive melamine. The physical and mechanical properties of the obtained faced particle boards presented in the paper evidence absolute effectiveness of an AF-2 modifying additive in the production of nontoxic wood–polymer compositions both as a hardener and as a formaldehyde acceptor.
