Abstract

Currently, the trend of using wood–polymer composites based on thermally modified wood filler becomes to be popular. The chemical structure of a filler, however, changes and the adhesion between components worsens during thermal modification, which decreases the mechanical properties of a composite. Ozone treatment of a filler after thermal modification is proposed in this work. The results showed that ozonation can significantly improve the interaction between filler and hydrophobic polyethylene, which enhances the properties of a final composite.
