Abstract

This article studies the regularities of changes in the adhesive binding quality in the manufacture of book and magazine products depending on the type of hot-melt binding adhesive and the type of printing paper. The work uses the foreign-made hot-melt adhesives Technomelt Q-2416 and Technomelt Q-3218, as well as the domestic hot-melt adhesive TK-3P, and offset and coated matte paper. The study objects were model adhesive joints in the form of paper–hot-melt adhesive–paper triplexes. The obtained experimental data allow us to quantitatively predict the change in the strength during delamination of adhesive joints under study depending on the pressing force’s magnitude during gluing. Their resistance to thermal aging and exposure to low temperatures, as well as the elasticity of corresponding adhesive films, are studied. It was found that in terms of gluing strength of the named types of paper, the domestic hot-melt adhesive TK-3P surpasses the imported hot-melt adhesive Technomelt Q-3218, while being inferior to the imported hot-melt adhesive Technomelt Q-2416. Sufficient elasticity and weather resistance were revealed for all the hot-melt adhesives studied.
