Abstract <p>The composition of leucocytes has been studied in the peripheral blood, head kidney (pronephros), and spleen of spawning pink salmon. Lymphocytes predominate among leucocytes in the peripheral blood and pronephros, while immature or blast forms of cells prevail in the spleen. The proportion of the content of different forms of leukocytes depended on sex and the structural and functional characteristics of tissues and organs. It has been found for the first time that the blood leucogram significantly changes after habitat change from marine to freshwater environment. The detected decrease in the proportion of lymphocytes with simultaneous increase in the number of neutrophils and blast cell forms indicates a decrease in lympho- and an increase in myelopoiesis. Similar changes were previously recorded in the leukogram of young pink and chum salmon during smoltification. It is assumed that these differences are one of the mechanisms of adaptation of salmonid fishes to habitat change.</p>
