Abstract

The article provides the first data on species of the genus Vaucheria from the Black Sea coast of Georgia. In 2023, two sections of the coast were studied in Batumi (Autonomous Republic of Adjara) and Poti (Samegrelo–Zemo Svaneti region). These belong to the supralittoral zone and are characterized by proximity to interruptions of the coastal bar, namely to the Chorokhi River mouth and drainage ditches, where the sea water splashes into fresh water bodies during storm surges. The Vaucheria habitats are characterized by freshwater conditions, but elevated water conductivity. In total, four species were discovered, V. compacta, V. dichotoma, V. litorea, and V. synandra, which are new to Georgia and the Black Sea (V. compacta and V. synandra). The species of Vaucheria form temporary communities during spring (from March until May).
