摘要

Abstract

This article summarizes the most important results in the main areas of activity of the Baikal Institute of Nature Management, Siberian Branch, Russian Academy of Sciences (BINM SB RAS). From the very beginning, the institute was focused on comprehensively solving environmental problems, which have transformed into the scientific concept of “sustainable development.” Interest in the issue of sustainable development of regions has not diminished in recent decades; in fact, it is ever increasing due to the processes of globalization. While in the first years of existence of the institute the problems of development of individual regions and individual aspects of the concept of sustainable development were discussed, the problems of integration of natural, economic, and social components of balanced spatial development at the level of macroregions along corridors such as the Silk and Tea Road, the Steppe Route, the China‒Mongolia‒Russia Economic Corridor, etc., are currently being solved. The concept of sustainable development involves an analysis of resource potential, the implementation of social programs, and the development of new environmentally sound technologies and materials. These directions are a strategic basis for the economic development of society in modern conditions. New approaches to the creation of sustainable ecological and economic systems are based on multidisciplinary knowledge and the results of long-term research performed by BINM SB RAS scientists.
