Attaining an Extended Flat Irradiation Field with a Carbon Beam from the U-70 Synchrotron
摘要
Abstract
This paper outlines physical concepts for an elliptical spiral beam sweeping system to yield extended transversally flat (accumulated) irradiation fields fed with an accelerated carbon-nuclei beam slowly extracted from the U-70 synchrotron at the Institute for High Energy Physics, National Research Center “Kurchatov Institute.” The system is to be used in a wide-beam treatment option at experimental carbon–ion cancer therapy complex, which is currently under construction.
