Abstract <p><i>trans</i>-Stilbene reacted with alkyl thiocyanates in concentrated sulfuric acid to give 1-alkylsulfanyl-3-phenyl-3,4-dihydroisoquinolines which were converted into 3-phenyl-3,4-dihydroisoquinolin-1(2<i>H</i>)-one upon silica gel chromatography.</p>
