Abstract <p>An efficient synthetic approach to 2,2′-bipyridines with a triptycen-2-ylamino [(9<i>R</i>,10<i>R</i>)-9,10-di­hydro-9,10-[1,2]benzenoanthracen-2-ylamino] substituent at the α-position has been developed on the basis of 1,2,4-triazine precursors. The synthesis includes nucleophilic substitution of the cyano group in 3-(pyridine-2-yl)-1,2,4-triazine-carbonitriles, followed by the Boger reaction with norbornadiene.</p>

Abstract
