Abstract

Selective reduction–oxidation of dimethyl 3,4-dimethoxythiophene-2,5-dicarboxylate gave methyl 5-formyl-3,4-dimethoxythiophene-2-carboxylate and then methyl 5-[di(1H-pyrrol-2-yl)methyl]-3,4-dimethoxy­thiophene-2-carboxylate, and the latter was used to obtain the corresponding BODIPY derivative.
