Design, Synthesis, and Characterization of Novel Benzimidazole Derivatives and Their Biological Assessment

A series of new benzimidazole derivatives containing 1,3,4-thiadiazole, 1,3,4-oxadiazole, thiazoli­dine, or 1,2,4-triazole ring have been synthesized. All newly synthesized compounds were characterized by IR, ¹H and ¹³C NMR, and LC/MS spectroscopy and were tested for their antibacterial and antioxidant activities. Among the synthesized compounds, 2-{2-[2-(cyanomethyl)-1H-benzimidazol-1-yl]acetyl}-N-phenylhydrazine­carboxamideshowed the best antioxidant activity, and N′-(4-bromobenzylidene)-2-[2-(cyanomethyl)-1H-benzimidazol-1-yl]acetohydrazide exhibited the lowest minimum inhibitory concentration against Enterobacter aerogenes.
