Abstract <p>The discharge of contaminated wastewater and the use of fresh water in the Central Federal District were examined. Trends in contaminated wastewater discharges to surface water bodies over 2005–2021 were assessed. Trends in fresh water use for industrial, household and drinking, irrigation, and agricultural supply purposes were also assessed for the same territory. Mathematical models that adequately describe changes in these parameters were selected. A forecast of contaminated wastewater discharges to surface water bodies in the Central Federal District for 2025 was produced.</p>
