A Study of the Synthesis of 1-R-1H-Tetrazoles from Primary Amines, Sodium Azide, and Ethyl Orthoformate by Gas Chromatography–Mass Spectrometry

Abstract
The reaction of primary amines of different nature (benzylamine and aniline) with sodium azide and ethyl orthoformate in acetic acid, leading to the corresponding 1R-1H-tetrazoles (R = PhCH2, Ph) has been studied by gas chromatography–mass spectrometry. The key intermediates of this reaction, formed as a result of nucleophilic substitution of the ethoxy groups in ethyl orthoformate, as well as acylation of the initial amines in the reaction medium, have been elucidated.
