Abstract

A new hydrogel has been synthesized via cross-linking polyaldehyde of arabinogalactan with glutaric acid dihydrazide in an aqueous medium at room temperature. The formation of the hydrogel is due to the appearance of covalent hydrazone bonds between the functional groups of the components. Based on rheological experiments, the number of cross-links and the mesh size of the polymer network have been determined depending on the gelation conditions. The equilibrium swelling degree, thermal properties, and degradation behavior under physiological conditions have been determined for the obtained hydrogels. The results show the promise of using the synthesized hydrogels for biomedical applications.
