Abstract

We have developed a method for the asymmetric synthesis of nickel complexes with a 2,2,2-trifluoroethylaminotryptanthrin fragment containing two carbon stereocenters in the amino acid fragment. The complexes were obtained in the presence of catalytic amounts of base in 50–76% yields and diastereoselectivity (dr) up to 5 : 1. Decomposition of the Ni(II) complex in an acidic medium led to (3S,5R)-3-amino-5-(trifluoromethyl)pyrrolidin-2-one, a derivative analogue of L-norvaline.
