Abstract

The mesomorphic, optical, and dielectric properties of a nematic mixture of 4-pentyloxy- and 4-heptyloxy-4′-cyanobiphenyls doped with optically active (bis)camphoralidene-hexamethylenediamine were studied. The clearance temperatures of the mixtures were measured using polarization microscopy to assess the degree of destabilization of the mesophase upon dopant introduction. Additionally, the helical pitch of the induced chiral nematic phase in the mixtures was measured, and the influence of the chiral dopant on the mesophase’s anisotropic characteristics was investigated.
