Synthesis and Temperature-Controlled Photoluminescence of Cyano-Substituted Pyrrol-2-one Derivatives

Abstract
A series of previously unknown cyano-substituted pyrrol-2-one derivatives containing an ester fragment in the structure was synthesized. The compounds exhibit solid-state photoluminescence in the red and near infrared regions of the spectrum with emission maxima from 608 to 701 nm. Certain of the compounds showed a high sensitivity of luminescence intensity to temperature, especially in the temperature range close to a physiological region. It was shown that a controlled change in emission intensity can be repeated many times by changing temperature.
