One-Step Synthesis of 5-Acetyl-1,3-dibenzyl-5-(ethoxycarbonyl)-3,4,5,6-tetrahydropyrimidinium Nitrate

Abstract
A one-pot method has been developed for the synthesis of 5-acetyl-1,3-dibenzyl-5-(ethoxycarbonyl)-3,4,5,6-tetrahydropyrimidinium nitrate (yield 78%) by reacting dibenzylhexahydropyrimidine-5-carboxylate with silver nitrate in acetonitrile– water in the presence of air oxygen at room temperature. The influence of reaction conditions on the selectivity of formation and yield of tetrahydropyrimidinium nitrate was studied. Using scanning electron microscopy, it was shown that the precipitate formed during the reaction contains Ag2O and reduced silver.
