Abstract

A series consisting of 1,8-acridinedione [3,3,6,6-tetramethyl-9-phenyl-3,4,6,7,9,10-hexahydroacridine-1,8(2H,5H)-dione and its derivatives was constructed successfully with good yields. This is an easy, convenient and one-pot three component coupling technique which occurs among various substituted aromatic aldehydes, dimedone (5,5-dimethyl-1,3-cyclohexanedione) and ammonium acetate at reflux temperature (70°C) under mild reaction conditions without employing a catalyst. The present synthetic protocol comprises several unique features like, mild reaction conditions, lesser reaction times, good yields, simplicity and a facile workup over the traditional synthetic methods. The computational study is applied to evaluate drug likeness properties of synthesized compounds.
