Abstract <p>At the southern end of the Urals (Zilair plateau) abnormally low winter temperatures are reflected in the formation of a specific anatomical structure of the annual layers of English oak (<i>Quercus robur</i> L.). The identification of calendar years with damage to common oak by abnormally low winter temperatures, carried out on the basis of the features of the anatomical structure of oak annual layers, showed that in the last 325&#xa0;years, in this area there are anatomical signs of exposure to abnormally low winter temperatures are present in the radial growth layers of 47 calendar years, for most of which the proportion of features in the annual layers is very small and does not exceed 1%. Only in the radial growth layers of 1818, 1828, and 1942 is the proportion of features significantly higher (6–40%).</p>
