Bioinspired Synthesis and Characterization of MgO Nanoparticles using Cinnamomum camphora and Clerodendrum viscosum Leaves Extract

This study presents a cost-effective and environmentally friendly approach to synthesising green magnesium oxide nanoparticles (MgONPs) and characterising their morphological properties. Extracts of Cinnamomum camphora and Clerodendrum viscosum leaves have been used in an environmentally friendly synthesis as a precursor to synthesise MgONPs. The physicochemical properties of the synthesised nanoparticles (NPs) have been characterised using UV, FTIR, TEM, and EDX. The successful formation of MgONPs has been confirmed by the peaks observed in the UV-VIS spectra. MgONPs synthesised by Clerodendrum viscosum reduced the bandgap to 4.85 eV due to oxygen vacancy. The TEM results revealed that the MgONPs are agglomerated and have a cubic structure. This study provides a foundation for synthesising green MgONPs using renewable resources and an environmentally friendly approach.
