Abstract <p>Active work continues on the development of the SPD (Spin Physics Detector) facility at the NICA accelerator complex, which is located at the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research (JINR). Since the facility will collect a large amount of data, data processing and storage will be carried out in a distributed computing environment. In this regard, there is a need for specialized software for effective data management. At the current stage of research, significant amounts of data have already been produced, and the Rucio system is used as a management tool, a standard solution for data management in the field of high energy physics. The article describes the experience of putting Rucio into operation for the SPD experiment. Integration with other services, development of additional utilities, automation of work processes is also being considered.</p>
