Abstract <p>An overview of recent results on nuclear shape investigations performed in the lead nuclide map region at the ISOLDE (CERN) and IRIS (Konstantinov Petersburg Nuclear Physics Institute (PNPI)) facilities by in-source resonance ionization spectroscopy (“in-source” spectroscopy) is presented. This technique is a powerful tool in the studies of nuclear shapes, sizes, and electromagnetic moments, which are extracted from the measured isotopic shifts and hyperfine structure of the optical lines of corresponding atoms. The IRINA facility constructed at the high flux neutron reactor PIK at PNPI is also discussed. “In-source” spectroscopy will be applied at the IRINA facility for the efficient studies of nuclei close to the neutron drip line.</p>
