Abstract <p>Within the framework of the variational method in quantum electrodynamics, the energy levels of the excited states in mesonic helium and Σ hyper helium have been calculated. For the calculations, a basis of exponential wave functions has been used. The leading relativistic corrections, leading radiative corrections (self-energy and vacuum polarization), and recoil corrections have been applied.</p>
