Abstract

The Multipurpose Detector of Muons (MDM) is an array of multiwire drift chambers shielded by steel absorber layers. The detector is designed to study the muon component of extensive air showers at zenith angles raging from 0° to 60°. The threshold muon energy and the number of secondary particles that can mimic muon tracks must be determined to allow correct interpretation of detector data. A detector model has been developed for this purpose in Geant4, and the detector response to multiparticle events from CORSIKA 7 has been simulated.
