Abstract <p>The article presents the results of thermal shock tests on unirradiated prototypes of absorber elements (AEs) for the VVER-1000 reactor made from 42KhNM alloy with dysprosium hafnate pellets, as well as cyclic thermal tests and corrosion resistance tests in a steam-water environment at temperatures up to 1300°C on individual dysprosium hafnate pellets. The tests and studies were conducted taking into account the design service life of the new generation VVER-1000 AE control and protection system (CPS) of 20 years, the average number of reactor “shutdown–startup” cycles ranging from 15 to 40, and the design basis accident conditions for tolerant fuel.</p>
