Abstract

This paper presents the results of experimental and numerical investigations of the thermal behavior of an uninsulated double-pancake HTS winding during the initiation of transition processes using a local thermal perturbation. The experimentally measured volt–ampere characteristics of the winding at different heater currents are presented. Using a numerical model, the level of thermal and electrical contact between winding turns has been determined, and differences in the thermal behavior of the winding with different coefficients of interwinding contact have been demonstrated.
