Radioecological Situation in Certain Areas of the Southern Federal District

Results are presented from long-term studies of the ambient dose equivalent rates (ADERs) of gamma radiation in urban and rural settlements of the Southern Federal District using the example of Krasnodar krai. ADERs are measured at heights of 100 cm from the Earth’s surface by SRP-88n, DRBP-03, and DKS-96s dosimeter–radiometers with BDKS-96s detectors in afoot gamma surveys. The studied regions have a variety of landscapes ranging from steppe plains, the foothills of the North Caucasus, and the Black Sea coast. It is shown that the arithmetic mean of ADERs in urban areas is 0.11 μSv/h. In rural settlements, it is 0.14 μSv/h. These results could be due to differences between the soil and climatic conditions of different settlements. Differences in the ADERs of gamma radiation could also be due more to the uncertainty (standard deviations) in measuring and (to a lesser extent) features of the terrain and the content of radionuclides in the soils of a given region. The radiation situation in Krasnodar krai at the time of the study complies with the requirements of SanPiN (Sanitary Regulations and Standards) 2.6.1.2612-10. The values of the gamma-radiation equivalent dose rate are within the limits of natural background fluctuations characteristic of the Russian Federation.
