Nutrient Composition and Biochemical Profiling of Aqueous Ethanolic Extracts of Pseudochnoospora implexa (J.Agardh) Santiañez, G.Y.Cho & Kogame, 2018
摘要
Pseudochnoospora implexa (J.Agardh) Santiañez, G.Y.Cho & Kogame, 2018, a rarely explored brown seaweed, was analysed in detail for its nutraceutical potential for the first time. Further, the biochemical profiling of the aqueous ethanolic extract of P. implexa was conducted by employing various biochemical assays. The findings of the study highlighted that P. implexa can be employed as a good source of phenolic compounds and antioxidants, as it had fairly highphenolic content with significant antioxidant activity and reducing ability. The higher carbohydrate content pointed to the possibility of exploring the seaweed as a source of phycocolloids which have a good industrial potential. Fatty acid analysis revealed that P. implexa is a good source of saturated and unsaturated fatty acids. The study highlighted that P. implexa can be exploited as a potential bioresource for isolating bioactive compounds and phycocolloids. However, more extensive research needs to be carried out to study the biorefinery potential of this seaweed.
