The Life-History Features of the Humpback Shrimp Pandalus hypsinotus (Decapoda, Pandalidae) in the Tatar Strait

A modal analysis of the size and age composition of the humpback shrimp from the Tatar Strait was based on data of trawl surveys and pot fishing in 2010–2022. The analysis was carried out taking into account seasonal variations in the biological state of the population, dynamics of the 2-year reproductive cycle of females, and data on the growth of the strong 2010 year-class. It has been found that the modal sizes of males aged 1–6 years are 11–12, 20–22, 26–27, 29–30, 32–33, and 35–37 mm in carapace length; the modal size of intersexes, on average, was 38 mm. The age of the sex change is 5 to 6 years. Most females breed three times in their life, which takes 6 years. The life expectancy of humpback shrimp in the Tatar Strait is estimated at 12 years; individuals living longer are rare. During the breeding season, the reproductive part of the population is represented by four year-classes of males aged 2+ to 5+ and seven year-classes of females (including intersexes) aged 6+ to 12+.
