Abstract

Biogenic magnetite particles, so-called magnetosomes, are promising for use in biomedicine. The study of magnetosome chains that have been found in ancient sediments on the ocean floor provides valuable information about the Earth’s biological past. We derived formulas that describe the magnetic dipole interaction of oriented single-domain spheroids and calculate quasi-static hysteresis loops for a randomly oriented assembly of spheroidal magnetosome chains.
