Abstract <p>We have synthesized a new series of heteroleptic halogen-substituted complexes with the general formula [XL<sub>2</sub>Bipy]Cl, where L = 1-(4-fluorophenyl)-3-(4-bromophenyl)-propane-1,3-dione; Bipy = 2,2'-bipyridine; and X = Fe<sup>3+</sup>, Ga<sup>3+</sup>, Eu<sup>3+</sup>. Their structure and phase behavior have been studied and their magnetic properties have been investigated in a wide temperature range and analyzed theoretically.</p>
