Abstract <p>A model of the flow of electric current in magnetoresistive elements is developed by solving a two-dimensional boundary value problem for Laplace’s equation with mixed Dirichlet–Neumann conditions in an anisotropic medium. The dependence of the sensor output characteristics on geometric parameters is established for the barber-pole structure by numerical modeling to determine ways of optimizing its sensitivity.</p>
