Features of the Removal of Ethylene Chloride Derivatives from Air by Pulsed Corona Discharge Plasma

The possibilities of the plasma-chemical method of air purification from ethylene chloride derivatives have been investigated. A pulsed corona discharge of negative polarity with a duration of 40 ns and a voltage amplitude of 100 kV was used as a source of nonequilibrium plasma. Model mixtures based on vinyl chloride, vinylidene chloride, trichloroethylene and perchloroethylene with a content of 250–500 ppm in air and nitrogen were used to study the purification parameters. It has been shown that both oxidation processes by active oxygen forms and dissociative adhesion processes play a significant role in the process of ethylene chloride derivatives removal. The main gaseous products of transformation remaining in the gas phase have been determined. The energy parameters of the destruction processes and the parameters of the relative reactivity of ethylene chlorine derivatives with respect to the components of the pulsed discharge plasma have been determined.
