Striction-Induced Stresses in a Magnetoactive Elastomer

Theoretically demonstrated is the possibility to determine magnetostriction coefficient α of a magnetoactive elastomer (MAE) by way of simple isometric experiment, where the force is measured that emerges in result of application of a field in the direction along which the dimension of the sample is fixed. It is shown that the value of α may be found from analyzing the dependence of the force (or surface pression) on the aspect ratio of the sample.
