Abstract <p>Maharashtra state has a coastline of around 720 km having around 23 species of Mangrove species. Most of these mangroves have luxuriant growth of lichens growing on their trunk and rarely on the leaf and on stone. Present paper deals with documentation of 38 species belonging to 19 genera and 14 families from the seven major mangrove sites in Maharashtra. The present communication is the first-hand record of the lichens growing in the mangrove habitat of the state of Maharashtra. The present status of bio-indicator lichen communities together with diversity dominance and frequency of different lichen taxa will act as a baseline data for carrying out environmental change studies in the area due to human activities.</p>
