Abstract <p>This article reports the first case of geophagy in a wild troop of stump-tailed macaque (STM) across South and South-east Asia. There were four case recorded ad libitum during November, 2023 as part of a yearlong behavioural study of STM in Hollongapar Gibbon Sanctuary, Assam, India. Out of the four distinct cases of geophagy, three involved ingestions of soil from the base of uprooted trees and one involved ingestion of earthworm cast. As there are reports of requirements of mineral intake in primates and other mammals, these results highlight geophagy as a means of enhancing mineral intake posed by nonavailability of preferred food.</p>
