Abstract <p>Photoionization efficiency of volatile organic compounds evaporating from aqueous solutions under atmospheric pressure was compared for two vacuum ultraviolet radiation sources: a gas-discharge lamp and laser-induced plasma. The plasma was produced by pulsed radiation of an Nd:YAG laser with a wavelength of 1.06 μm, pulse duration of 0.5 ns, and energy of 0.4 mJ, focused on a metal target. It was shown that the ion source with laser-induced plasma produces 40–8000 times more analyte ions (alcohols, amines, and ketones) than with the gas-discharge lamp.</p>
