Abstract

Tractive characteristics of prospective wheeled tractors of tractive class 8 with power of 500–600 hp were determined using Weichai engines WP14TG492E304 (491.8 hp) and WP17G600E302 (599.9 hp). At a reference power/weight ratio of 1.7 kW/kN a two‑stage tractive calculation was performed: for the working range and for transport speeds. The methodology was adapted to the specified engine performance maps and a refined algorithm for determining vehicle mass and powertrain parameters. Tractive characteristics were constructed, and compliance with the drawbar‑load class and attainment of 40 km/h on the governed characteristic were confirmed. The engine power plateau improves tractive‑speed performance and fuel economy.
