Influence of the Wheel Tread Geometry on the Longitudinal Dynamics of a Train

Abstract

A method for calculating the forces between intercar couplings is presented, which includes components of forces caused by the difference in the geometry of wheel tread surfaces from a conical shape, resulting from wheel wear. Wheel wear is accompanied by the appearance of additional inertia forces that affect the rolling characteristics of the wheel and the contact forces between the wheels and the rails, which are also included in the calculation of forces in the couplings that form the longitudinal dynamics of the train. The dependence of forces on vertical track irregularities is taken into account.
