Abstract

The K–Ar and Ar–Ar geochronological study results obtained for diorites and altered rocks at the epithermal Rodnikovoe Au–Ag deposit (South Kamchatka) are presented. Igneous rocks of separated outcrops located within the ore-bearing Rodnikovoe volcanotectonic structure are of similar age, and they formed a unified large pluton intruded in the Early Miocene between 7.7 and 8.5 Ma ago. The isotopic age of feldspar in the ore-host altered diorites is ~2.33 Ma corresponding to the time when the Rodnikovoe Au–Ag deposit began to be formed. Thus, a significant time gap (5.5 Ma) determined between the pluton intruding and the Rodnikovoe deposition makes it possible to attribute them to different volcanic activity stages in South Kamchatka. Based on the above-mentioned studies, it can be concluded that the development of epithermal quartz vein Au–Ag base-metal mineralization of the Rodnikovoe volcanotectonic structure was related to the Pleistocene magmatism and was multistage.
