First Record of Seismites in the Upper Cambrian of East Siberia (Moyero River Section)
摘要
Abstract
For the first time in the Upper Cambrian deposits of the Moyero River section (north of the Siberian Platform), sedimentary structures interpreted as indicators of paleoseismic activity have been discovered and described. These structures occur in shallow-water carbonate microbial-algal ribbon rocks. In the section, two seismite horizons are separated by an interval of undisturbed deposits. The origin of these horizons is presumably linked to two distinct paleoearthquakes. The identified seismite horizons were apparently formed near the epicentral area of weak crustal earthquakes or were induced by the impact of large extraterrestrial bodies on the surface of the Siberian paleocontinent.
