One of the Reasons for the Relatively Low Intensity of Seismic Vibrations in the Territory of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky during the July 30, 2025 Earthquake
摘要
The Kamchatka earthquake of July 30, 2025, localized quite accurately in predictions of seismologists, primarily by S.A. Fedotov, was very unexpected in some respects. With a very large magnitude (larger than expected), the shaking intensity in the territory of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky turned out to be relatively low, at least 1.5 points lower than it should have been according to calculations. In addition to the possible influence of focal features on this fact, this work provides assumptions about the influence exerted by the nonlinear relationship of stresses and strains during the propagation of seismic vibrations through the ground layer on the decrease in seismic intensity. The results of computer simulation of the seismic event are presented. The calculations are based on assumptions about soil properties and parameters of seismic impacts.
