Abstract

Estimates of variations in crystallization temperatures of magmatic olivine in kimberlites with Mg# 88–89, as well as crystalline inclusions of spinel-group minerals, ilmenite, rutile, and phlogopite in such olivine are provided based on a substantial dataset (43 pairs) by using different geothermometers (olivine–chromite, olivine–ilmenite, and ilmenite–titanomagnetite pairs), with careful consideration of compositional variations of the minerals used for calibration of geothermometer equations. Olivine with Mg# 88–89 is the most widespread by volume among the other zones of magmatic olivine crystallization in individual grains from the volcaniclastic kimberlites of the Udachnaya-East pipe. In addition, the study reports 96 chemical analyses of the crystalline inclusions in this olivine.
